Hi, my name is Janey, I am a qualified, BACP registered and insured counsellor and psychotherapist providing both individual therapy and marriage counselling. Like you, I am more than just my professional job title. I am also a mother, a sister, a daughter, an aunt, a carer and a friend to many.  I am based in Chelmsford, and this is where I see most of my clients.

I enjoy working with a number of different clients, both men and women who are feeling stressed, anxious or depressed, grieving, struggling with low self-esteem or confidence or having trouble building or maintaining friendships and relationships - through to couples who need extra assistance in their relationships.

In additional to my specialist areas above, I also offer counselling and psychological support to 'Autistic Adults' and 'Parent/Carers of children with special needs'.

As a parent carer to a disabled child who is also autistic, I found out first-hand the of the lack of support, resources and understanding available at the time I needed it most. After giving up my career in the city after my son was born and caring for him until he started school, I finally followed my passion and retrained as a psychotherapist in order to be able to help and support as many people as possible feeling similar to how I did.

This led on to me working with and supporting Autistic Adults and adults awaiting assessment for ADHD and ASD.

I use my personal lived experience of caring for someone with special needs and autism to support my work with my parent carer clients. I take my education and knowledge of autism and the different way this presents in adults to tailor the counselling to support autistic adults in order that everyone can access effective and practical counselling and therapy that meets their needs.

I work with clients in a psychotherapeutic way, using person-centred and humanistic therapies. I will occasionally draw on other theories and models including transactional analysis, CBT and solution focussed therapies depending on your needs and your presenting issues.

I will work with you and listen to find out what is happening for you NOW, and sometimes, if needed, we may revisit to the past to better understand what has bought you to this time and place. I will work with you to help you discover how you would like to feel and help you uncover ways to live the life you want to be living and feel the way you want to be feeling.

I am am interactive therapist that not only listens, but will interact with you to ensure you feel fully understood and supported.

To aid me with this, I also have a working knowledge and professional development certificates in Psychodynamic theories, dream analysis, grief counselling and the psychology of mental health.  I completed an additional certificate in working psychologically with adult autism. I also have diplomas in Special Educational Needs & Disabilities and in Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA).

For people who prefer, outdoor walk & talk therapy is available, as is working creative and visually.

I believe my life experience, previous work experience (15 years' working in professional roles such as Bank Manager, Operations Manager and Risk Assessment), my knowledge and my training all help me to be a better, more effective and empathetic counsellor.  At the heart of my 30 years' work experience has been people development, working with and guiding people to reach their full potential and I hope by working together, I can do that for YOU.
