Hi, my name is Janey, I hold a BA (Hons) degree in counselling and psychotherapy. I am accredited by the BACP and fully insured to provide both individual therapy and couples counselling and psychotherapy.

Like you, I am more than just my professional job title. I am also a mother, a sister, a daughter, an aunt, a carer and a friend to many.  I am based in Chelmsford, and this is where I see all of my clients.

I enjoy working with a number of different clients,  men and women, and now teenagers who are feeling stressed, anxious or depressed, grieving, struggling with low self-esteem or confidence or having trouble building or maintaining friendships and relationships.

I also work with a range of couples from people who are married or living together, dating, or thinking about separation. Whatever your relationship needs, I will try and help you get the support you need.

In additional to my specialist areas above, I also offer counselling and psychological support to 'Autistic & ADHD Adults' and 'Parent/Carers of children with special needs'.

How I work

I will tailor the counselling I offer to meet your needs as an individual to help you feel comfortable and get the most out of your sessions.

I will tailor the counselling I offer to meet your needs as an individual to help you feel comfortable and get the most out of your sessions.

What this means is that I will work with you and listen to find out what is happening for you NOW, and sometimes, we may revisit to the past to better understand what has bought you to this time and place. I will work with you to help you discover how you would like to feel and help you uncover ways to live the life you want to be living and feel the way you want to be feeling.

I work in a dialogical way which focuses on an authentic and two-way interaction and I will work with you as a person, rather than solely  focussing on your symptoms.

Through open two-way conversation, I will help you to explore your experiences,  relationships, emotions and thought processes in order that you feel supported and understood.

I have a core model of person centred and psychodynamic theories and I may draw from aspects of creative arts, transactional analysis, cognitive and behavioural, solution or emotion focussed, attachment, analytic and outdoor therapies.

To aid me with this, I also have a working knowledge and professional development certificates in Psychodynamic theories, dream analysis, grief counselling and the psychology of mental health.  I completed an additional certificate in working psychologically with adult autism and understanding ADHD. I also have diplomas in Special Educational Needs & Disabilities and in Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA).

I believe my life experience, previous work experience (15 years' working in professional roles such as Bank Manager, Operations Manager and Risk Assessment), my knowledge and my training all help me to be a better, more effective and empathetic counsellor.  At the heart of my 30 years' work experience has been people development, working with and guiding people to reach their full potential and I hope by working together, I can do that for YOU.
